Santa got me a cold for Christmas, which means I rang in the new decade by heading to bed well before midnight. I think that's what 2020 looks like; making choices that nourish. My goal for the new year and new decade -- and the rest of my 30s! -- is to INVEST IN MYSELF. It's taken me a long time to get to this point. My 20s were delightfully chaotic. The last decade included things like hitchhiking America for a year, having my heart broken over and over, meeting my future wife, shaking Barack Obama's hand, becoming a licensed massage therapist, growing and dashing tiny house dreams, being in a television commercial, discovering who I am and what I want to experience out of life. It was sporadic and ever-changing, with difficulty and breathtaking beauty taking place in equal quantity. This next decade, I have the gift of stability. I'm married, I own my own home, I have a wonderful job that I want to invest my time and energy into, and my wife and I have a plan for our combined future. As I navigate this new reality, I'll be asking myself the question: am I investing in myself? Investing in myself, what does that look like? For me, it's everything from: learning about 401k contributions, making weekly meal plans with fresh ingredients, spending more time in nature, finally making dentist appointments, setting aside time for creativity and novel-writing, figuring out Wills and Power of Attorneys, learning Spanish, spending time with people (and animals!) I love, and crafting weekly/daily routines that help give my heart stability.
This is the whole point of my blog and youtube videos. I've learned that I benefit from the accountability that comes with sharing my journey, and that connecting with other folks on their own journeys really inspires me. For 2020, I'll be posting a new blog or new youtube video each Sunday by noon (central time). The content will cover all the things that inspire and intrigue me -- which really means, all the ways that I'm investing in myself. I'll be sharing things that I learn: -Personal Finance (which includes first time home ownership, debt pay down, budgeting, and general Millennial adulting) -Spanish (connecting with my Puerto Rican and Mexican heritage) -Liberal Judaism (connecting with my Jewish heritage) -Curly Hair Care (watch for curly hair routines and hair product reviews) -Submitting Poetry and Articles to Publications And things that I love and do: -Vegetarian and Vegan Cooking Recipes -Creative Writing & Poetry -Genealogy Adventures (the art of finding lost stories) -Self Care -Productivity Hacks -Outdoor Adventure Stories (hiking, kayaking, and camping!) Thank you for joining me here. Being human is incredibly hard, no matter who you are. When we weave our shared learnings, information and stories together, we build something stronger than existed before. I hope that through sharing my own journey, I can help you feel more at home anywhere you are. I've been learning how to feel more at home in who I am, in what I choose, each and every year. It is little step by little step, a slow settling into better versions of myself. What steps are you taking this year, to invest in yourself? What makes you feel the most nourished, supported, and able to grow? I'd love to hear! Drop a comment below, shoot me a message, or drop a . link with an exploration of your own journey. I appreciate you!
